What is the difference between Biogents mosquito traps and other mosquito traps on the market?

Biogents is a mosquito trap brand founded by mosquito experts Dr. Martin Geier and Dr. Andreas Rose. The effectiveness of Biogents traps is based on scientifically proven methods and supported by extensive research and field data.

Independent comparative studies have demonstrated the outstanding performance of Biogents traps — both with and without CO₂:

  • A study conducted by an independent laboratory in September 2024 found that the Biogents CO₂ trap captured 3 to 4 times more mosquitoes than leading competing CO₂ traps.
  • Another independent study from September 2025 showed that the Biogents trap without CO₂ captured 35% more mosquitoes than its main competitor.

This high level of performance results from a unique combination of patented trap design, optimized airflow technology, the Biogents Sweetscent attractant, and many years of scientific research.

Unlike many conventional mosquito traps that rely on UV light and indiscriminately attract and kill various insects, Biogents traps are specifically designed to target mosquitoes. They operate without insecticides and therefore do not harm beneficial insects.

Do the mosquito traps really work?

Yes — the effectiveness of Biogents mosquito traps has been scientifically proven. More than 400 scientific publications have used Biogents traps or evaluated their performance.

Today, Biogents traps are sold in over 100 countries and have been trusted for more than 16 years by researchers, public health organizations, mosquito control districts, municipalities, and private users worldwide.

Our customers include the U.S., German, and French armed forces, numerous mosquito control organizations, and leading public health institutions such as the WHO, CDC, and Institut Pasteur.

Why use CO2?

CO₂ is a natural component of human breath and plays an important role in helping mosquitoes locate humans from long distances when searching for a blood meal. As a result, CO₂ acts as a powerful attractant for virtually all mosquito species.

By mimicking human breathing — in combination with the attractant that imitates human skin scent — the addition of CO₂ makes the trap significantly more attractive to mosquitoes and can increase the capture rate of tiger mosquitoes by up to five times.
